Donating to SAB

Your donations support our SOLM Atelier de Barro in Calhau, a ceramics and leadership initiative designed to create new economic and creative pathways for women and youth in Cabo Verde.

For many of our participants, this is their first intensive experience working with ceramics — discovering not only the material itself, but the possibilities it can create through craftsmanship, creativity, cultural preservation, and hospitality. Through structured training, participants are introduced to technical ceramic skills, product development, entrepreneurship, leadership, and collaborative making practices connected to regenerative tourism and local economic development.

More than a training program, Atelier de Barro is a space for confidence-building, creative expression, and opportunity creation. Participants gain access to tools, mentorship, and hands-on learning that can support future income generation, professional development, and participation in Cabo Verde’s growing hospitality and creative sectors.

By supporting this campaign, you are helping build access to education, preserve local material culture, and create long-term opportunities rooted in creativity, dignity, and community.

  • Establishing and running the atelier requires essential infrastructure and materials. This includes the purchase of key equipment such as kilns and pottery wheels, as well as ongoing supplies like clay bodies, glazes, and firing materials. It also covers the tools needed for shaping, finishing, and small-batch production, ensuring participants can work from raw material through to finished pieces.

  • This supports the delivery of the 6-month program, including student stipends, transportation, support, ceramics instruction, design and product development, and leadership and entrepreneurship sessions. It covers the time and expertise of facilitators, visiting practitioners, and program leads, as well as the structure needed to deliver over 200 hours of hands-on and guided learning.

  • To ensure the program is accessible, this includes participant stipends, transportation support, and the coordination required to run the program consistently over six months. It also supports day-to-day operations, scheduling, and the resources needed to create a stable and supportive learning environment for all participants.
